Imagine if people pursued marriage the way Olympians pursued their Olympic dreams.  There would be NO obstacle a couple couldn’t overcome.  There would be no divorce.

Olympians do not allow challenges to stop them from reaching their dreams.  Is your marriage a dream or do you treat it like something “you’ll try”?  When you got married did you say to yourself “oh well, if it doesn’t work we can always get a divorce.”  Do you think Olympians say, “oh well if I don’t make this jump or I don’t win this event I’ll just throw in the towel?”  If they did, they would never have a shot at getting the gold.

Marriage and relationships in general have become dispensable.  They get tossed aside and thrown out when they aren’t good any more.  This begs the question: What makes them “not good any more?”  It isn’t an issue of fault or placing blame.  It’s an issue of how the marriage or the relationship is perceived to begin with.

Treat your partner like they are the gold medal.  Work for it.  Work for your partner.

I’m writing this at 4:30 in the morning.  I woke up thinking about it.  For many reasons.  The main reason is because I believe in the sanctity of marriage.  Not because it is in the bible or part of numerous religions.  I believe in it because I believe in commitment.  I believe the greatest fulfillment in life is being committed…being committed to your relationships; to people…being a committed daughter, son, parent, friend, business associate.  Look at any area of life-personal, spiritual, financial, social.  Look at the people who have success in these areas and consider the various definitions of success.  All of the top business success speakers and personal development speakers agree unequivocally that commitment is a crucial component of success in any area of life.

The translation of “I’ll try” is “I’m not committed.”  The word “try” needs to be removed from all human language and thought.  And a few other words, come to think of it.  Don’t “try” to make your relationships work.  Don’t “try” to make your marriage work. I suspect Olympic athletes have banned the word from their vocabulary.   And I can’t image Nike would ever use the word “try” in their slogans. You want your relationships to be happy and fulfilling then commit to them.  Just do it.

JUST DO IT!

Have you ever wondered why some people achieve great levels of success and not you?  Does it appear to you that these successful people have come by their success effortlessly and sometimes even overnight?  Does it tick you off?  I know how you feel.

The only way to achieve “overnight success” is to work at your craft diligently EVERY DAY.  And it starts with these 6 keys YOU already have.

1. Think BIG

Everyone has the ability to think big but not everyone does it.  How big are your dreams?  Are you dreaming of just getting the bills paid every month or are you dreaming of setting up a billion-dollar non-profit organization to increase the food supply around the world so no one EVER has to go hungry again?

2. Believe in Yourself

You ARE good enough.  We are all good enough.  Are you reading this and saying to yourself “ I DO believe in myself, but I’m still not successful”?  Consider that your belief is lip service and the words you are really listening to are the ones that are unspoken-the thoughts of “I can’t do this”  “Can I really do this”  “I’m not smart enough” “How can I make my dreams come true?”  If you say you believe in yourself but you are constantly having thoughts to the contrary, those thoughts will over rule your spoken words.

3. Share the Vision

Whatever your dreams are, whatever it is you want to achieve LET IT BE KNOWN.  Tell people about it, share it.  And HOW you share it is just as important as sharing it in the first place.  State your intention with conviction.  You will be surprised at how well received your message will be and how much people will want to contribute to your dream.

4. Execute

This one is really simple, and yet we’ve all been challenged by it:  Get off the couch!!! You don’t need to know the “how.” Just get started.  You can have the first 3 keys-the dream, the belief and the voice to share it-but nothing will happen if you keep your rear parked on the couch.  It’s like telling everyone to get in the car and get ready for a wild ride on an empty tank of gas!  Or, even worse, you stay on the couch!  “Oops-I’m sorry.  I know it was my idea to go for a ride but I’m not going.  Ya’ll have fun now, ya hear!”

5. Focus

I’ve heard this time and time again by millionaires and billionaires.  Don’t try to do two  things at the same time.  Focus on and succeed at one thing.  Then move on to the next.

6. NEVER GIVE UP!!!

Captains of industry, professional athletes,  Olympic champions, top-dollar actors and musicians…they NEVER give up.  You don’t stop until your dream is reached.  Too often, sadly, people give up on their dreams.  In fact, many people have become so accustomed to giving up on their dreams, they probably don’t even remember what they were in the first place.

Have you ever wondered how 95% of the wealth could possibly be controlled by only 3% of the population and the other 5% of the wealth is being fought over by 97% of the population?  When you hear this statistic, does it make your jaw drop in astonishment?  It does mine.  Always.  Every time I hear it.  Every time I think it.  And I don’t know about you, but I don’t like it.  One of my BIG visions for this world is to truly re-distribute the wealth and hike that 3% to 50%.  How about that?  It can be done.  I have the keys…YOU have the keys.
